California Immigration Consultant Surety Bonds

Part of the application process of becoming an immigration consultant in California includes posting a $100,000 surety bond to the Secretary of State. This surety bond guarantees that the principal (immigration consultant) will submit accurate information on behalf of their clients, and other items outlined under the provision of Chapter 19.5 of Division 8 of the Business and Professions Code of the State of California. This bond is issued in 2-year increments, but may be terminated at any time by the surety company as part of Section 995.440 of, and Article 13 (commencing with Section 996.310) of Chapter 2 of Title 14 of Part 2 of, the Code of Civil Procedure.
