Alabama Contractor License Surety Bonds

Subcontractors in Alabama performing work of $50,000 ($5,000 swimming pools or greater) or more for a licensed general contractor must be licensed by the Alabama Licensing Board for General Contractors, under Chapter 8 of Title 34, Code of Alabama, 1975. Bond requirements vary by city and county. Please contact your local Licensing Board to confirm their needs. Typical bond amounts range from $2,500 -$10,000. HVAC Contractors are required to obtain a $15,000 surety bond, per the provisions of Code of Alabama 1975, 34-31-18, Et. Seq. The bond runs to the State Board of Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors.

Note: If you have had a license for three (3) consecutive years with any of the following Boards, you may qualify for reciprocity from this Board: Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi or Tennessee General Contractors Board, North Carolina State Board of Electrical Contractors. The Qualifying Party for Alabama must be the same as the Qualifying Party for the reciprocal state.
